MISSION The Dance Movement Therapy Board is a 501 c (6) organization that was created in 2009 for the purpose of awarding and regulating the two-tiered credentials for practicing Dance/Movement Therapists. The mission of the DMTCB is to assess the knowledge and skills underlying the professional practice of dance/movement therapy for entry-level and advanced dance/movement therapy practitioners. The DMTCB provides both Registry (R-DMT) and Board Certification (BC-DMT) and recertification for all practicing dance/movement therapists. The Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board recognizes individuals qualified in the use of dance/movement therapy through utilization of the best possible criteria in order to promote high standards of care for clients and the promotion of continuing education in the theory and practice of Dance/Movement Therapy. Although affiliated with the ADTA, the DMTCB is a separate board existing solely to regulate the professional credentials of dance/movement therapists. The ADTA and DMTCB work collaboratively to establish and revise the standards for board certification. Standards for Registry are established by the ADTA committee on Education.
