The Dance Movement Therapy Board
is a 501(3)c organization that was created in 2009 for the purpose of awarding and regulating the two-tiered credentials for practicing Dance/Movement Therapists.  The purpose of the DMTCB is to assess the knowledge and skills underlying the professional practice of dance/movement therapy for entry-level and advanced dance/movement therapy practitioners.  The DMTCB provides both Registry (R-DMT) and Board Certification (BC-DMT) and recertification for all practicing dance/movement therapists.

The Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board recognizes individuals qualified in the use of dance/movement therapy through utilization of the best possible criteria in order to promote high standards of care for clients and the promotion of continuing education in the theory and practice of Dance/Movement Therapy.

The members of the DMTCB include two, three member panels who annually review R-DMT (Alternate Route and Non-approved Program) applications and Board Certification applications, an overall Chairperson, Public Member and a Compliance Coordinator who oversees the Recertification and Continuing Education process.  The board meets once yearly in the Spring to review all applications and award credentials
