Explanation of ADTA Student Emergency Accommodations

This document was created by the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) to provide temporary flexibility and supportive accommodations to students and programs affected by federally or internationally declared disasters (e.g., natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics). Its goal is to uphold ethical and educational standards while recognizing that crises can significantly disrupt DMT training and clinical work. It includes eligibility, procedures, temporary accommodations, and reporting requirements related to coursework, fieldwork, and internship disruptions. In addition, the document includes guidance and referrals for:

  • Mental health support: SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline
  • Federal education relief: U.S. Department of Education emergency policies
  • Financial aid updates: Federal Student Aid (FSA) guidance during disasters

If your training or internship was disrupted by a disaster,

  • You may be eligible for accommodations (e.g., modified schedules, alternate sites).
  • Fill out the Student Emergency Accommodation Application (included at the end of the document).
